Animal, a division of sports supplement manufacturer Universal Nutrition, was an official sponsor at the Mr. Olympia on October 29th and 30th, 2004. Their exhibit, “The Animal Cage” was a big hit with fans who lined up to see what was going on inside its chain-linked walls.

Each day, The Animal Cage hosted strength competitions in which visitors could prove their strength by benching their body weight. When bench exhibitions were not going on, The Animal Cage crew, consisting of several world record-holding powerlifters and pro bodybuilders, presented seminars on dieting, training, and competing. Consumers who stopped by The Animal Cage witnessed benching exhibitions by Joe Ladnier, the recent winner of the WPC World Powerlifting and Benchpress Championships; Paul Vargo, the holder of WABDL world record of 657.9lb. in the 275lb. weight class; and Andy Fiedler, the record holder in the 269lb. class with an 810lb. lift. This record has made Andy the heaviest man to ever triple body weight bench. In the Animal Cage, Fiedler benched an unofficial world record of 830lb.

In a small, far corner of the booth, tattoo artist, Dan Jackson, from Absolute Ink Tattoo in Las Vegas, Nevada was inscribing the most hardcore fans with the Animal “A” logo for free. These were real tattoos, not those fake ones people have given out in the past. People lined up to receive their Animal tattoos. Although more people signed up to receive tattoos, the Expo’s hours were limited and not all of them were lucky enough to get one.

Overall, The Animal Cage was a great success. New bodybuilding products, such as Animal Nitro and Animal Nitro G were displayed alongside Animal Pak and other mainstays. Universal Nutrition and Animal were proud to be an official sponsor of the 2004 Mr. Olympia and to support bodybuilding, as it has for the past 20+ years.
