New ÂMigraine Calculator to Be Unveiled:
Innovative tool to help employers determine the financial benefits of treating employees who suffer from migraine headaches.
28 Million Americans Suffer Migraines, Costing Employers $13 Billion Each Year. On Thursday, Mar. 10, 2005 at Institute for Health and Productivity Management (IHPM)Âs inaugural conference, Care-Focused Disease Management at Work: Designing Benefits and Programs for Functional Outcomes, in Orlando, Florida, PhRMA will be joined by Dr. Wayne Burton and The HSM Group to unveil their new ÂMigraine Calculator, which is a web-based tool designed to help employers estimate the incidence of migraine headaches, as well as their impact on the work force and the potential net savings of helping employees seek treatment.
The media briefing to unveil the calculator will take place from 4:30 p. m. to 5:30 p. m. at DisneyÂs Contemporary Resort in the Fantasia A&B room during the discussion Employee Migraines are a Headache for Employers: Economic Burden of Migraine in the Workplace, part of the breakout session Musculoskeletal and Pain Care.
The ÂMigraine Calculator or Productivity Impact Model (PMI) was developed by the HSM Group, Ltd., a health care consulting firm based in Scottsdale, Arizona, with support from PhRMA. The calculator estimates the impact of migraines based on a companyÂs size, type of industry, location, and the age and gender of employees. It also projects the potential net savings the company can expect, after considering the cost of treatment, if employees obtain treatment.
