Studio City, CA (PRWEB) June 29, 2010

SemTech 2010 (http://www. semtech2010.com), the world’s largest semantic technology tradeshow and conference, took place June 21 – 25, 2010 in San Francisco. Now in it’s sixth year, SemTech 2010 was the most anticipated by attendees, sponsors, and exhibitors alike. Boasting a 30% increase in attendance, SemTech hosted 200 sessions and eight industry specific tracks covering a variety of hot topics including linked data, search, advertising and marketing, healthcare, enterprise data, financial, open government, intelligence, and publishing.

“Attendance at SemTech has increased every year, even through the economic downturn” said Tony Shaw, president of Semantic Universe, the organization behind the SemTech conference. “More importantly though, semantic technologies keep getting more robust and more widely deployed. There’s no longer any doubt that semantics will keep growing as an integral part of the web infrastructure.”

This year’s conference highlights included presentations from David Recordon, Senior Open Programs Manager at Facebook who lead a session entitled "Facebook's Open Graph," a discussion of the company's new semantic protocol released earlier this year.

Dean Allemang, Chief Scientist of TopQuadrant and James Hendler, Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute keynoted “Semantic Web for the Working Enterprise.” In this entertaining presentation, Allemang and Hendler discussed the intersection of semantic web and enterprise technologies, and how information can be shared on the World Wide Web through enterprise applications. Indeed at one point in this rousing talk, they had the entire audience cheering “Raw Data Now.”

David Siegel, best selling author and semantic technology writer, keynoted the conference with his presentation entitled, “Pull: The Business Shift Behind the Semantic Web.” During his presentation he discussed the capabilities and potential of the Semantic Web for business people.

Among the many revealing talks was Trevor Parscal and Erik Moeller of the Wikimedia Foundation presenting on "Wikipedia's Structured Data Challenge." They discussed the possibilities for semantics to enhance their 15 million articles in 265 languages on Wikipedia, which is currently primarily "flat text." Another ground-breaking announcement was made by Bill Guinn of Amdocs who spoke about the new cost-saving, revenue-building semantic technology platform they built to support a 3 billion dollar customer service business.

Pitch Slam, a rapid-fire presentation of eight semantic technology start-ups had the crowd engaged as companies were evaluated by a panel of judges. Pitch Slam was hosted by the Guidewire Group as part of their Innovate! 2010 program for start-up companies around the world.

SemTech is the preferred industry platform for exhibitors to announce product launches, publishing deals, and breaking news. Attendees had the rare opportunity to view products and services from top industry insiders.

Preparations for SemTech 2011 are already underway. Next year’s event will take place June 5 – 9, 2011 at the San Francisco Hilton in Union become a sponsor or exhibitor please contact Steve Bastasini at steve@semanticuniverse. com or (415) 740-5528.
