SafeShot Technologies Names Kevin Hanly as New Board Member

Company Continues to Attract Industry Leaders in Medical Device Engineering and Manufacturing

Mountain View, CA (Vocus) October 19, 2010

SafeShot Technologies, LLC, a leader in safety syringe innovation, today announced a new Board Member – Kevin Hanly, teacher of Engineering and Bio Medical Manufacturing at the Institute of Technology in Salt Lake City, Utah for the Granite school district. Kevin has more than 25 years of experience in managing Medical Device Manufacturing Operations within a highly FDA-regulated environment. He recently retired from the industry as V. P. of Manufacturing for ICU Medical in June 2009.

“We have been focused on advancing our technology for commercialization,” said Robert Beart, Emeritus Professor of Surgery at USC’s Keck School of Medicine and CEO of SafeShot. “With patents in place, the completion of our full-line of safety products, and the recruitment of industry leaders to take us to the next level in development, SafeShot is well on its way to addressing the growing issues of sharp’s injuries, syringe re-use, blood splatter and spread of HIV and Hepatitis. We are pleased to add Kevin HanlyHanly to our Board of Directors. His primary skill and strength is in medical device disposables, injection molding and high-speed automation technology. He is a true asset to our organization.”

According to the World Health Organization, someone dies every 24 seconds from an unsafe injection; that’s 1.3 million preventable deaths each year,” said SafeShot Technologies Co-Founder Dan Thayer. “22 million more are infected with HIV, Hepatitis and more. Nearly 1 million people in the US alone are victims of needlestick injuries, which cost the healthcare system $1.2 billion.”

The 2008 Study of Nurses Views on Workplace Safety and Needlestick Injuries by the American Nurses Association reveals Needlestick Injuries (NSIs) and blood-borne infections remain a major concern in the U. S., with two-thirds of all nurses having been accidentally stuck by a needle while working. Despite the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act of 2000 which celebrates its 10-year anniversary this November, many healthcare professionals are still not being equipped with safety solutions to eliminate exposure to blood borne pathogens and sharps injuries.

“Getting a medical device product to market can take a lot of time and money” said Mr. HanlyHanly. “I’m very excited to be aligned with SafeShot Technologies because they have a technology I believe can make a tremendous impact in our world, and they have attracted an elite team of professionals who have been in the medical device industry or on the frontlines to the needlestick injury issue, and they know what needs to be done to bring a vision to reality. The spread of HIV and Hepatitis to innocent frontline healthcare workers, as well as anyone on the other side of a contaminated needle has to end.”

SafeShot Technologies’ affordable Epiphany Safety Syringe – a one-handed, single use, auto-retractable, auto-disabled safety syringe that upon use, retracts and securely holds the contaminated needle portion in the barrel cylinder for disposal eliminating any risk of getting pricked or exposed to blood borne viruses such as Hepatitis or HIV. After a single injection, the needle is permanently disabled.
